Haley Alderete grew up in Chula Vista, California and found a passion for project based learning at High Tech High Chula Vista.  She studied Psychology and Government at Claremont McKenna College, and was the tutoring program student manager, a tour guide, and a research assistant that focused on bilingual communication. She has worked at entrepreneurship focused nonprofit organizations in Singapore and Uganda, taught 5th grade English in Chile, and done research and contract work for First 5 San Diego.  Haley feels most comfortable in a classroom setting that fosters project based learning, and is ecstatic to help create the foundation for SOUL Charter School.

Haley has various teaching experiences.  She has worked with preschoolers, kindergarteners, and middle school students in all subjects, and first and fifth graders in Spanish.  Haley has led leadership workshops abroad targeting Special Education students, and entrepreneurs.  She has taught high school science in El Cajon the past year, and focused on English Language Learner Biology for Arabic speaking students.  Haley’s ultimate goal is to meet students where they are by considering their cognitive, language, and personal abilities, and help them develop in both their strengths and weaknesses.  Her passion for science stems from her research experiences, and believes that all students have the ability to analyze an issue, and come to conclusions in systematic and purposeful ways.

Here are four things you may not know about Haley:
